BANGKOK, Thailand – The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy to very heavy rain in parts of the North, Northeast, East and South over the next 24 hours, with the risk of flash floods, run-off from higher ground and mudslides, particularly in low-lying areas and on slopes near waterways. People in affected areas are being urged to avoid routes prone to repeated flooding, especially low-lying spots that can flood quickly even for short periods.

Heavy Rain Puts All Thai Provinces On Flood Alert

The department attributed the wet weather to a monsoon trough crossing the lower North, upper Central region and the Northeast, combined with a fairly strong southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, the Gulf of Thailand and the mainland. Seas have also been forecast as rough, with waves of 2 to 3 metres in the upper Andaman Sea, rising above 3 metres in thundery conditions, while the lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand can expect waves of around 2 metres, higher than 2 metres during thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea have been advised to stay ashore until 20 September, with all vessels urged to exercise caution and avoid areas of thunderstorm activity.

For Bangkok, thunderstorms are forecast over 80 per cent of the capital, with heavy rain in some areas and temperatures expected to range from 24 to 26 degrees Celsius to 32 to 35 degrees Celsius, with southwesterly winds of 10 to 25 kilometres per hour. In the 24 hours to 7am, Bangkok saw moderate to heavy rain, with the highest rainfall recorded at 27mm in Nong Chok district, followed by 14.5mm in Min Buri and lower totals in Khlong Sam Wa, Wang Thonglang and Saphan Sung, though no major roads were reported needing accelerated drainage.

22 Northern Thailand Reservoirs Overflow Amid Flood Fears

Water levels along the eastern flood barrier and in the Chao Phraya River remained within normal ranges as of this morning, well below critical levels at the Khlong Song, Saen Saep and Lat Krabang sluice gates. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, with disaster response units on standby and local officials instructed to clear drainage pathways and prepare for potential emergencies in high-risk areas.
